Juneteenth: A Celebration of Freedom
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, marks a pivotal moment in American history. Celebrated annually on June 19th, it commemorates the day in 1865 when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the end of slavery, more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. This day symbolizes the end of a dark chapter in American history and the beginning of a journey toward equality and civil rights for African Americans.
For us today, Juneteenth is a day of reflection, education, and commitment to justice and equality. It serves as a reminder of the progress made and the work still needed to address inequality in our society. It also underscores our dedication to diversity, inclusion, and respect for all employees. It is an opportunity to honor the resilience and contributions of African Americans and to reaffirm our commitment to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued and empowered.
We strengthen our resolve to foster an inclusive environment. We encourage open dialogue, continuous learning, and actions that support equity. Juneteenth is not just a historical milestone; it is a call to action for us to uphold our shared values of respect, integrity, and community.
